How to add a run

Information we look for when adding a run to RunHunters.

We strive for quality over quantity on RunHunters so that everyone who chooses to tackle a specific route has complete confidence in the information we provide. 

When you add a route to RunHunters the team will review the run info and most likely re-draw the run route to ensure it's very accurately mapped. We will remain in contact with the contributor so they can also check and review the info.

To add a run you need to login into your desktop version of RunHunters, please note your RunHunters dashboard has been built for desktop usage, not mobile usage. To add a run

1. Log in to your RunHunters dashboard using the same details you used to create your RunHunters account. Click My Routes > Add Route

The easiest way to get to your Dashboard when you're on your desktop is head to our homepage and click the 'login' link in top corner.

The Run Route Map: Please load a GPX file. If you need help on how to download a GPX file from Strava, Suunto Movescount or Garmin Connect read our help article here

Run Name: What's the common name of this run. Runners can search by specific run names on the main map.

Run Description: This is the key part of why you believe this run should be on RunHunters. What info can you share that would make a runner go wow! I really need to get out and do this run. Is it the views, the solitude, the awesome single track or a sensational way to explore a city before the locals get out of bed. This is your chance to sell the sizzle on why this should be a RunHunters worthy run.

Distance: input as total metres e.g. a 15.4 KM run is 15400 metres.

Elevation Gain: total metres gain e.g. 220 metres

Run Type: choose from Loop, Out & Back, One Way

Surface Type: this should be an approximate guide for a runner contemplating the run. Use the sliders to indicate approximate percentage. For reference, when runners filter runs on the main map using surface type, runs that have more than 30% of a certain surface type are shown in filtered surface type results. The total percentages don't have to add up to 100% ... but it helps 🙂

Why Runners love it icons: These give runners a quick indication of why it's a great run whether exploring a new place or training specifically.

Tips: This is a great chance to share information that a local would share with a visiting runner. Are trails shoes a must? What time is best to run? Can it be run in either direction? Are there confusing junctions to be aware of, and are these marked on the map with a junction pin? Do you need to take money? Where's best to park and is parking free? Can it be run at night and would headtorches be required? Are there sections of car traffic or mountain bike traffic to be aware of?

Safety: At RunHunters HQ we load up standard safety tips such as share where you're going with friends and take the right gear in preparation for all weather situations. Are there additional safety tips you want to share?

Run Difficulty: Difficulty is a reflection of distance and elevation gain. We have four level of difficulty indicated as follows:

Recommended pre/post run cafe, restaurant or pub?: Help runners have a great day out and support the local community in that area by pointing runners in the direction of your recommended spots for grabbing a coffee, snack and post-run beer. You can also drop pins on the map in the next screen to show where these places are located.

Run Cover Photo: This is the photo on the top of the run information screen. Try and pick a great photo, clear in detail and with some 'wow' factor if possible. We'll edit the photo size for you if not 1500x1020.

Once you have added this information click the red Next button which will take you to a map showing your run route and enabling you to drop information pins on the map before submitting for review to RunHunters HQ.
